Laser Epilation at home how long does it take?
Like going to a salon, the treatment works over several sessions. If you have a laser unit that targets one hair at a time, the cosmetic process can take some time to complete depending on how many hairs need to be treated, each hair will need about 4-8 treatments at at least 24 hour intervals. So if you are removing hairs yourself at home, each hair will need about 4 seconds of pulsed light to be treated, so with a single hair targetting unit it takes time, but as it is permanent results, it may be considered worth the time, especially if the clinic treatments are too costly for you, doing it yourself at home might be worth the extra time involved.
Where can I find home laser units?
A less expensive units that target each hair individually and cost around £100 ($200) can be found on the net, and more expensive units $1000 and over can also be found online (see links at bottom of page)
Skin Care
With any treatment that you do at home, safety is an important issue. The worst that is reported as happening with the home laser units that remove individual unwanted hairs is a slight swelling or redness that quickly goes down, a little like after waxing. The skin is cared for as only the hair follicle is treated, the skin around as long as it is lighter than the hair, remains untouched and once the hair growth is arrested, the skin looks smooth and silky.
Do DIY methods work?
Yes the good units do work effectively, a laser device needs to be able to produce laser with a minimum fluence of 20 Joules to really be effective. For safety reasons if you are in the USA look for machines with FDA approval. People report good results with DIY, do some research and choose a product carefully to get results.
Other methods of removing hair at home
Of course there is still always waxing, shaving, depilatory creams, plucking etc, but in he long run, the latest hair removal technique using laser light is a much more efficient method and the most effective home laser hair removal products can be well worth the time and money to save you having to follow these regimes in future. The lasers are safe to do at home than electrolysis as the technique is non invasive. Electrolysis involves inseting a probe into the hair follicles and running an electric current through it, this is not necessary in laser light techniques.
